Chinese lithium-ion battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) has filed a new lawsuit against its emerging rival China Aviation Lithium Battery (CALB), according to an announcement released last Friday by CALB.

The lawsuit was filed at the Fuzhou Intermediate People's Court, alleging that CALB and its independent distributor have infringed one of CATL’s utility model patents, numbered ZL201720968992.6. The patent in question involves explosion-proof technology achieved through structural optimization.

CATL is asking the court to order CALB to cease infringing on its patent rights by halting the manufacturing, selling, and offering for sale of the allegedly infringing products. The company is also seeking economic losses amounting to 92 million yuan as well as reasonable expenses of 300,000 yuan.

In response, CALB stated that the litigation has not yet been heard in court, and there is no final judgment. As a result, the lawsuit will not negatively impact CALB's current and future production and operations. CALB also plans to take appropriate legal measures to protect its rights and interests.

Public information reveals that since 2021, CATL has filed lawsuits against CALB over at least seven lithium-ion battery patents, with three utility model patents involving the same explosion-proof technology.
