China Identifies 74 GI of Agricultural Products in Xinjiang

Up to date, China has identified 74 geographic indications (GIs) of agricultural products from Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, 25 of which are approved in recent five years, a source from Xinjiang Brand Research Institute revealed on February 15.
Jujube
The Institute achieved great results in 2016. Hetian Jujube, Hetian Carpet and another five brands were honored with “Chinese GIs” and protected by rules governing appellation of origin.
According to 2016 Report on Xinjiang Brand Development released by the Institute, there were 1,468 valid brands of agricultural products, with 67 being approved as GIs. By the end of 2016, brands of agricultural products totaled 24,412 with 98 GIs, an increase of 39.6% and 29.7% respectively when compared to 2013.
